White Gravy Recipe


Ingredients:
1 No - Bay leaf
2 tbsp - Oil
5 No - Onion medium
1/4 tsp - Cumin powder
1 inch - Ginger
4 No - Garlic cloves
3 No - Green chillies
1 tbsp - Garam Masala
1/8 tsp - Dry fenugreek powder
5 tbsp - Poppy seeds or melon seed paste
4 tbsp - Cashew paste Planters Cashew Halves and Pieces, 46-Ounce Tins (Pack of 2)
1/4 cup - Yogurt
Pinch of cinnamon
Pinch or two of cardamom
Salt to taste


Method:
Boil or steam the onions and then along with ginger, garlic and green chillies grind to form a smooth paste.
Heat oil in a pan and when hot add the bay leaf.
Add the onion paste and cook till brown (10-15 mins).
Add the spices and stir well.
Add the poppy, cashew and yogurt paste. Bob's Red Mill Poppy Seeds, 8-Ounce Packages (Pack of 8)
If you find the mix too thick then you can add some water to get the desired consistency.
Cook till the mix on a low flame till oil separates.

Poppy and melon seeds serve as economical and low fat alternative.
You can replace it with white sauce, khoya (mawa), fresh cream or home made malai.



Variation

The same recipe can be made by replacing poppy seeds or melon seed paste and yogurt for the following
1/2 cup - Milk
5 tbsp - Cheese
2 tbsp - Cashew paste
1/4 tsp - Corn flour


Add the corn flour to the milk to form a smooth mix.
Rest follows the same.
This gravy can be used in a number of preparations, especially of malai kofta and panner.
