Vegetarianism and Spirituality

Vegetarianism and spirituality are the cornerstones for a successful meditative and spiritual life.
The diet that we intake is of primary importance for this. Food is not just about eating a pack of healthy nutrients. But it goes far deeper. Foods whether meat or plant based, are conscious entities which we are consuming. Hence, nature of the food consumed, its properties not only affects, but also alters our physical, emotional, and mental set up.

The doctrine of non-violence is the central theme for spirituality.
If we closely watch the skeletal set up of the human body or refer to the holy scriptures of any religion they prescribe a strict vegetarian diet.

The Holy Bible states that a man should lead a vegetarian life. In Genesis, God says, "I have given you every herb-bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree-yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat" (Genesis 1:29).

Even in the Ten Commandments, given to Moses one of them was, "Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus 20:13) so eating flesh, eggs is out of question.

"If one offers Me with love and devotion a leaf, a flower, fruit or water, I will accept it." (Bhagavad Gita, 9.26) Fresh from the Vegetarian Slow Cooker: 200 Recipes for Healthy and Hearty One-Pot Meals That Are Ready When You Are

The difference between a flesh based and plant based diet are manifold.

Fruits and vegetables are grown through a natural process of photosynthesises. Their main energy source lies in nature - sun.

Again one can argue that there is some degree of violence in obtaining vegetarian food. But it is much lesser almost insignificant. As it has only 1 active element of nature, water. Unlike animals which contain souls or divine spirit/energy and are made up of blood, flesh and bones.

Another myth about low nutrients in a vegetarian diet can be broken by the fact strongest animals with greatest endurance are vegetarians, for instance, elephants and horses. Even humans measures power of engines in terms of "horsepower." The Vegetarian Myth: Food, Justice, and Sustainability
