Simple Appetizers – Dry fruit Spinach Phyllo

Phyllo is a fine pastry dough used largely in the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisines, in making both sweet and savoury dishes.
The word ‘phyllo’ means ‘leaf’ in Greek and is sometimes spelled as ‘fillo’. In Turkish, it is known as ‘yufka’.
A few popular dishes made with phyllo include, Egyptian savoury pastries called gollash. Indian sweet pastry called pootharekulu.

Ingredients:
4 tbsp – Butter
8-10 No – Phyllo wrap
1 cup – Spinach
2 tbsp – Raisins chopped
4 tbsp – Shelled Walnuts
1 No – Onion finely chopped
1/4 cup – Cheddar cheese
1 No – Lemon juice
1/8 tsp – Nutmeg
1/8 tsp – Cinnamon
Salt to taste
Pepper to taste

Method:
Heat butter in a pan and add the onion and spinach and cook till it becomes soft. Remove and allow it to cool.
Mix the remaining ingredients in a bowl.
Add the spinach to it and mix well.
Roll out the wrapper and on a clean surface and brush it with butter.
Place another wrapper and spoon the filling in it. Fold to form a log.
Do the same with the remaining sheets and bake till golden brown.
