Rice Diet - for weight loss

The rice diet program was formulated by Walter Kempner of Duke University, in 1939.
It offers a healthy and effective solution for weight loss and specialises in the prevention, treatment and reversal of certain diseases like diabetes, heart and kidney related.
Unlike its name, the program has little relation with rice. It is drastically limiting sugar, salt, fat, and processed foods and instead consuming a healthy vegetarian meal 3 times a day.
The programme boasts of 20-30 pounds weight loss within a month and gradually 2-3 pounds a week.
Usually the dieters are kept in a safe and supportive environment for an intensive two to four week boot camp.

The programme is divided in 2 phases

Phase 1 - is considered as a detox food plan. In this phase, the diet mainly comprises of fruits and whole grains. Since sodium content gets dramatically reduced, most people experience a massive decrease in their appetite and food craving. However, it is best to undergo this phase under medical supervision.

Phase 2 - adds in other foods to the diets such as vegetables, beans and other carbohydrates. Fish can also be eaten once a week. Therefore, the amount of sodium ant this stage rises.

This diet can also be practiced at home. However the sodium intake at home is recommended to be slightly higher for safety reasons. In addition your physician should know about these dietary changes.
The detox diet for home should be limited to a day. While the extra sodium can be compensated through non fat dairy products, regular breads or cereals. The Rice Diet Cookbook: 150 Easy, Everyday Recipes and Inspirational Success Stories from the Rice Diet Program Community
