Lentil Recipes – Vegetable Dal
Ingredients:
1 tbsp – Oil
2 No – Dry red chillies
3/4 cup – Tuvar dal (split pigeon pea)
1 No – Carrot small chopped
5-6 No – Runner beans chopped
5-6 No – Cauliflower florets chopped
5-6 No – Drumsticks sliced
1/4 tsp – Ginger grated
5 tbsp – Coconut grated
1/2 tsp – Garlic grated
1 tsp – Coriander seeds
1/4 tsp – Mustard seeds
2 No – Green chillies slit
1/8 – Turmeric
1 tbsp – Lemon juice

Method:
Clean and wash the dal properly. Soak it in overnight in water.
Add 2-2.5 cups of water in it and steam in a pressure cooker for 7-10 mins on a high flame.
Then turn too a low fame and cook till done (another 5-7 mins). Blend the dal once cooked.
Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. When they crackle, add red chillies and saute and then add in ginger, garlic and onion and cook till golden.
Add in the tomato and tomato paste with the masalas. Let the mix cook till mixture separates from oil.
Add the dal and bring to a boil. Garnish with coriander. Serve hot.
