Lentil Recipes – Rasam
Ingredients:
1 tbsp – Oil
1/4 cup – Masoor dal (red lentil)
3 No – Tomatoes
1/4 tsp – Mustard seeds
2 No – Red chilli dried
1/4 tsp – Tamarind paste
1 tsp – Garlic crushed
1/8 tsp – Turmeric
1 tsp – Rasam powder
1 tsp – Curry leaves
1 cup – Water
Salt to taste
Method:
Wash and pressure cook the dal and keep aside.
Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and when they crackle, add red chillies and saute for a min or two.
Add crushed garlic, curry leaves and stir for a minute.
Add chopped tomatoes, tamarind and salt and stir, for a while.
Add turmeric and Rasam Mix and stir for a few seconds.
Add the dal and water and bring to a boil.
Garnish with coriander. Serve hot. Try Ready To Eat – Rasam Curry Rice
Variation
Ingredients:
1 tbsp – Oil
500 gms – Tomatoes diced
1 1/2 tbsp – Rasam powder
1 tbsp – Jaggery
1 tsp – Mustard seeds
1 tbsp – Curry leaves chopped
1 tbsp – Tamarind paste
Salt to taste
Method:
Heat oil in a pan when hot add the mustard seeds once they crackle add the rest and mix well.
Let the mix cook till well combined (should become paste like atleast 1/2 hour).
Serve hot with rice.
Option: You can also chop the tomatoes in a food processor but should be of thick consistency not thin.
Boil or steam vegetables 1/2-3/4 cup (aubergines, yam, green beans, drumsticks, bottle gourd)
and add if you like.
