Lentil Recipes – Dal Tadka

Ingredients:
2 tbsp – Ghee
3/4 cup – Pigeon pea (tuvar dal)
1/4 cup – Bengal gram (channa dal)
3 No – Garlic finely chopped
1/2 inch – Ginger stick finely chopped
2 No – Green chilli chopped
1 No – Onion large
2 tbsp – Coriander
1 tsp – Lemon juice
1/4 tsp – Turmeric
1/2 tsp – Cumin seeds
Salt to taste

Method:
Steam the dal in 2 cups of water and belnd when cooked.
Heat ghee in a pan and add a cumin seed to see if it crackles. Then add the onions.
When the onions turn pink add ginger, chilli, garlic and cook till begins to brown.
Add turmeric, lemon juice and tuvar dal.
Blend channa dal and then add it to the above mix.

Option:1
Use only Tuvar dal blend 1/4th and use the 3/4th without blending.

Option:2
You can use the same ingredients as above and without blending mix in 3 dals
2/3 cup – Pigeon pea (tuvar dal)
1/4 cup – Yellow bengal gram (channa)
1/4 cup – White dal (urad)
Only add in 1/2 a lemon.

Option:3
Same ingredients only add 1/4 tsp Garam masala and 1 No Tomato large sliced.
Use only tuvar dal in this variation.

Heat ghee in a pan and add a cumin seed to see if it crackles. Then add the the onions.
When the onions turn pink add ginger, chilli, garlic and cook till begins to brown.
Then add lemon juice, masalas, tomatoes and cook till the mix oozes with ghee.
Add the dal simmer and bring to a boil. Garnish with coriander and serve.
