Lentil Recipes – Dal Dhokli

Ingredients:
1 tbsp – Ghee
3/4 cup – Tuvar dal (split pigeon pea) Tuvar Dal Indian Lentils
1/4 tsp – Mustard seeds
1/4 tsp – Cumin seeds
1/2 tsp – Curry leaves
2 No – Green chillies slit
2 No – Dry red chillies
5-6 No – Kokam soaked
1/2 tsp – Jaggery
1/4 tsp – Ginger grated
1 tbsp – Peanuts (non roasted)
1/4 cup – Water
Salt to taste

Dough
1 cup – Whole wheat flour
2 tsp – Oil
1/4 tsp – Turmeric powder
1/4 tsp – Red chilli powder
1/2 tsp – Coriander powder
1/2 tsp – Ajwain (carom seeds)
1/4 cup – Water
Salt to taste
Pinch of asafoetida

Method:
Mix the dough ingredients with enough water and knead into a stiff dough.
Roll the dough into a ball, and using a rolling pin make large circle/oval shaped chapattis. Cut into thin strips and set aside.

Soak the kokum atleast 3-5 hours before use for better flavour and deep colour.
Steam the dal in a pressure cooker and blend very well.
Heat ghee and add the dry seeds and once they crackle add chillies, ginger and curry leaves. Stir quickly and add the rest.
Add the dal and let it cook with the masala for a while 3-5 mins.
Then add the dough strips and let it cook on medium heat. Do not stir too much or the dough strips may break. Serve hot. A Yellow Dal Specality Tasty Bite Jodhpur Lentils Entree
