History of Grills
Grilling food over open fire is almost 5000 years old, since man tamed fire.
By the end of World War II servicemen and their families started a migration to the suburbs, where houses had a backyard. Outdoor space called for outdoor pastimes and people started experimenting with open-air cooking.
The earliest form was a shallow sheet-metal pan placed over supporting stand and deluxe models were placed on a set of small wheels. These were called brazier grills. America’s Best GRILL Recipes Weber’s Real Grilling
Brazier grills were a flimsy proposition offering minimal control, even the food being cooked, often turned raw. It was then that Weber Grills were born.
George Stephen, a worker at the Weber Bros. Metal Spinning Company, envisioned a more efficient grill based on the harbor buoys designs that Weber was producing then.
He took a buoy and cut it along the equator. Then added a grate to the buoy and made some vents to allow the temperature to be regulated. The top half of the buoy was used as a lid. His newly made design became so popular that Weber became a household name for outdoor cooking. The first release was Weber kettle grill in 1952.
Thereafter subsequent innovations have led to more sophistication in designs and today we have a host of grills right from GAS – Weber 386002 Q 100 Portable Propane Gas Grill to CHARCOAL – Weber 10020 Smokey Joe Silver Charcoal Grill
to COOKER GRILLS Weber 721001 Smokey Mountain Cooker 18 1/2 Inch Smoker
