Easy Party Appetizers – Momoms
Momos are dumplings made from white flour and water which come stuffed with various kinds of fillings, mainly meat ones.
This food is native to Asia and originally from Nepal and Tibet. Although other Asian cuisines like Mongolian and Chinese have similar form of dumplings too.
Ingredients:
1 No – Onion finely shredded
1/4 cup – Runner beans finely shredded
1/4 cup – Carrot finely shredded
1/4 cup – Cabbage finely shredded
1 tbsp – Garlic minced
1/2 tsp – Ginger minced
1/4 tsp – White pepper
1 tbsp – Light soy sauce
1/4 tsp – Green chillies minced
1 tsp – Vinegar
Salt to taste
Batter
1/2 cup – Corn flour
1/4 cup – Refined flour
1 tsp – Oil
1/4 cup – Water
2 Pinches of salt
Method:
Sift the flour and salt.
Add oil and mix properly with your fingers.
Add water gradually and keep mixing with your fingers till you get a firm dough.
Cover with a damp muslin cloth and keep aside for half an hour.
Heat the oil and add garlic, ginger, green chillies and onions and stir for a minute.
Add the vegetables and reamining seasonings and stir.
Add little water to the vegetables and cook covered till they become soft and the water is dried up.
Remove from heat and keep aside.
Divide the dough into three portions.
Take one portion and make a ball of it and flatten it.
Roll evenly with a rolling pin trying to get a square of about 8-10 inches.
Cut this square into small squares of about 4-5 inches.
Put some filling in each square.
Lift one corner of the square and join it to the opposite corner to form a triangle.
Use water to glue the sides together.
Join the three corners of the triangle and gently twist to the tip. You can make circles or any shape of your choice.
If the side are not stuck together, use some water.
Steam the momos in a Wonton Food Steamer or over a pan of boiling water. Put a steel plate over the water and place the momos on it and let them cook till they are swollen.
Arrange the hot momos in a plate and serve with chutney or dipping sauce.
