Falafel is believed to have originated in Egypt, but with the increased popularity it became a common form of street food in the entire Middle Eastern region.
It is basically a spiced chickpeas and fava beans which are ground into a paste, formed into balls and then fried. These balls are then rolled up in traditional pita breads and dressed with Tahini and yogurt based sauces.
These pattys are eaten as a part of every day meal. And during Ramadan festival, are sometime eaten to break the daily fast.
Ingredients:
1 cup – Oil
1 cup – Green gram
2 No – Green chillies chopped
1 No – Onion chopped
1 tbsp – Coriander chopped
1/4 tsp – Garlic chopped
1/2 tsp – Baking powder
1 tsp – Zatar spice mix
Salt to taste
Method:
Soak the lentils over night with a pinch of salt.
Add lentil, chillies, garlic and coriander and grind to make a thick paste.
Add the remaining ingredients and beat the mix very well.
Make small balls of the dough and drop it in hot oil.
